Lauson Outboard Motors

   The Lauson Manufacturing Company was founded in 1895, by John Lauson. The company was located in New Holstein, Wisconsin. Lauson Maufactured 4 cycle engines for many pieces of equipment from Farm Tractors, Marine Inboard, Power plants, Garden equipment, Motor Scooters and more.

   In 1940 Lauson introduced their first outboard motor, a 2.5 horsepower. All of their outboards were to be 4 cycle air cooled motors. They would manufacture outboards through the 1956 model year.

   In 1956 Tecumseh purchased Lauson Manufacturing and in 1957 they purchased Power Products a 2 cycle engine manufacturer.

   Tecumseh was founded in the early 30's and by 1947 they were the leader in the refrigerator compressor industry. With the purchase of these 4 cycle and 2 cycle engine companies, Tecumseh would become a major player in the small engine industry to this day.

   Hard core parts for these outboards are getting more difficult to find as time goes on. Many older outboards used common Ignition and Carburetor venders for that period.
